التقي نيافة الأنبا كاراس، أسقف ولايات بنسلفانيا وديلاور وميريلاند وويست فرجينيا، السيد شريف فتحي وزير السياحة والآثار، وذلك خلال زيارة الأخير إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية للمشاركة في مؤتمر USTOA المنعقد بولاية ميريلاند.
وخلال اللقاء، رحّب نيافتة بالسيد الوزير والوفد المرافق له، مشيدًا بالتعاون القائم بين الكنيسة القبطية الأرثوذكسية والجهات الرسمية المصرية في مختلف المجالات التي تخدم أبناء الجالية.
ومن جانبه، أعرب السيد الوزير شريف فتحي عن تقديره للدور الرعوي والوطني الذي تقدمه الكنيسة القبطية الأرثوذكسية في الخارج، مؤكدًا أهمية الجالية القبطية والمصرية كقوة ناعمة ومؤثرة في دعم صورة مصر والترويج لها ثقافيًا وسياحيًا.
كما ناقش الجانبان تعزيز التعاون في مجال الدراسات القبطية، بما في ذلك إتاحة المحتوى الأكاديمي المتخصص عبر منصة EgTap التابعة للوزارة، إلى جانب بحث إنشاء قسم تاريخي داخل مركز ACTS للدراسات القبطية في لوس أنجلوس لخدمة الجالية والباحثين.
واختُتم اللقاء بتبادل الهدايا والتأكيد على أهمية استمرار العمل المشترك بين الكنيسة القبطية الأرثوذكسية والجهات الرسمية المصرية، دعمًا لأبناء الجالية وتعزيزًا للروابط الثقافية والسياحية بين الجانببين

His Grace Bishop Karas, Bishop of Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia, met with H.E. Mr. Sherif Fathy, the Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, during his visit to the United States to participate in the USTOA Conference held in Maryland.
During the meeting, His Grace welcomed the Egyptian Minister and the accompanying delegation, praising the ongoing cooperation between the Coptic Orthodox Church and official Egyptian institutions in various fields that support the Egyptian community abroad.
For his part, the Egyptian Minister expressed his appreciation for the pastoral and national role played by the Coptic Orthodox Church overseas, emphasizing the importance of the Coptic and Egyptian communities as an influential power that helps promote Egypt’s image culturally and touristically.
The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of Coptic studies, including providing specialized academic content through the Ministry’s EgTap training platform, as well as exploring the establishment of a historical section within the ACTS Center for Coptic Studies in Los Angeles to serve the community and researchers.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and an affirmation of the importance of continued collaboration between the Coptic Orthodox Church and official Egyptian institutions to support the community and enhance cultural and tourism ties between both sides.
