St. George – Norristown, PA

+ One of the early churches in the Northeast coast of the USA to serve Coptic families

+ The first Liturgy was conducted in October 1970 by Fr. Roufail Nakhla (Canada) in a Presbyterian church downtown in the city of Philadelphia, as part of the preliminary recording procedures.

+ Services were initially held at the Baptist Tabernacle church on 3700 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, PA, and later at the Syrian church of St. George in downtown Philly at 10th St. and Federal St.

+ Priests Who Served:
– Fr. Mancarious Awadalla served from May 1st, 1973, to July 1974.
– Fr. Angelos Bagdady served from July 1974 to July 1977.
– Fr. Mousa Elsyriani served from September 1980 until August 1983.
– Fr. Samuel Samuel served after Fr. Mousa Elsyriani.
– Fr. Roufail Youssef has been serving since January 26th, 1991.
– Fr. Mina Shaheid was ordained on 11/14/2009 by the hand of Pope Shenouda III

+ The first church building was at 100 W. 3rd Ave Conshohocken, PA 19422, was purchased on June 26th, 1980, to become St. George Church.

+ On February 25th, 1994, St. George Church purchased an Evangelical Lutheran church located at 411 Dekalb St. Norristown, PA 19401 (Current church)

+ The church was blessed and consecrated by HH Pope Shenouda III on October 15th, 1994.
