St. Mary – Newark, DE

+ The St. Mary Coptic Orthodox church in Delaware started in 1978 with 7 immigrant families who determined to bring their home church into the land of immigration.

+ In Dec, 30 th , 1978 – the Church was officially incorporated with 7 trustees.

+ The first liturgy took place in Jan, 19 th, 1979 in the backroom of a Methodist church in Wilmington, DE.

+ In 1989, the congregation was finally able to pay for a church building in cash on Red Lion Rd, Bear, DE

+ Dates of Renting Places for Prayer:
1979 – 1989 renting from St. Paul United Methodist Church at Folk Road, Wilmington, Delaware.
1989- 2003 Owned St. Mary Church at Red Lion Rd, Bear, DE
2003-2011 Owned a land lot to be built as a church in Frenchtown Rd, Elkton, MD.
2011-2024 Owned current church at 1644 Ottos Chapel Rd, Newark, DE.

+ In April, 17 th , 2011 – The building was ready and the first liturgy was held in it on Palm Sunday with more than a 100 families in attendance.
